Sprout Pasta Cake with Cheese

  • Brussels sprouts (halved) – 200g
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp 

  • Balsamic vinegar – 1 tbsp 

  • Penne  pasta – 350g

  • Butter – 2 tbsp

  • Garlic clove (crushed)-1

  • Plain flour – 3 tbsp

  • Milk – 500ml

  • Wholegrain mustard- 2 tsp

  • Green salad leaves, to serve (optional)
  • Mature cheddar (grated) – 200g


  • Pre-heat your oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.
  • Now toss the sprouts in oil and vinegar and then tip them into your roasting tin.

  • Bake those sprouts for 10-15 mins and toss them again in half time.

  • Read the instructions from the pack and cook the pasta less than mentioned on the pack.

  • Now drain the pasta and put it aside.

  • Take a pan and heat butter in it. Add garlic in it and then flour in it and cook for 1-2 mins. Start adding milk and add it till the mixture is smooth. Now sim the heat and cook it for 5 – 7 mins until it gets thick.

  • Now remove it from the heat and add mustard to it. Now add most of the cheese, save a handful of it for the topping too.

  • Now add the seasoning to it and stir it well.

  • Add the pasta into it, mix well and put the mixture in a large baking dish.

  • Add the topping of roasted sprouts and the cheese we reserved.

  • You need to bake it for 20 mins or till the cheese topping gets golden and starts bubbling. Serve it hot and have a green salad with it if you would like.
