Coronation turkey and chapattis

Savour homemade coronation turkey with chapattis to brighten up your Sundays.

  • Vegetable oil- 1/2 tbsp
  • Chopped onion- 1/2
  • Chopped garlic clove- only 1
  • Curry powder- 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric, ground coriander and cumin- 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut milk- 125 ml
  • Chicken stock- 125 ml
  • Mayonnaise- 200g
  • Leftover turkey- 425g
  • Toasted desiccated coconut- 2 tbsp
  • Chopped coriander- a few
  • Lettuce leaves, sliced onion, and chopped tomato- for serving purpose

For the chapattis

  • Wholemeal flour- 350g along with a bit more for dusting
  • Vegetable oil- 1 tbsp


Take a saucepan and heat it. Pour a bit of vegetable oil. To this, add the garlic and onion and fry it until it turns light brown. 

Pour all the spices, and fry them for a minute. Once done, pour the stock and the coconut milk. Wait until the onion mixture in the pan gets diminished to a rich thick, creamy, and spicy mixture.

Take the mixture out of the pan and allow it to cool down. Once it is cooled, mix the mayonnaise in it.

Add the flour along with one tsp salt in a large bowl for making the chapattis. Add the oil to it and use your fingertips to rub the flour. 

To form a firm dough, add 250 ml of lukewarm water and knead it for at least 10 minutes till it turns springy. Let the dough rest for 30 mins in a bowl. 

After 30 minutes, cut the dough into 8 pieces and turn them into rounds. 

Take a rolling board and roll the rounds into thin disks.

Take a heavy-based dry pan to pan fry the rolled out disks for not more than one minute on both sides. Make sure to use a clean cloth to keep pressing the rounds until they show colour and blister.

While serving, take the turkey and stir the curried mayonnaise in it.

Take a dry pan and toast the desiccated coconut till it turns golden.  Scatter it over the turkey and add some coriander to it. 

To add more taste, you can serve the dish with sliced onion, lettuce and tomato.
